Organizing

Today I added a project management area to the website for anyone who works on a project with me. It allows us to add tasks, files, and related information to a project outline with due dates and the like. This should really help me get stuff in order and finish some things. Everything in the “Projects” area of the site has been added in and will be managed through the new system.

I got the motherboard for the new server back yesterday and have been working on getting it up and running again. After a shitload of grief with it last night, I finally found out that there were two problems with it (no, the motherboard was fine): The power supply was bad (it was second-hand) and the IDE cable that connected the CD-ROM drive to the motherboard was bad. I’ve since replaced both and the system is now (finally!) operating 100%. Over the next few days I’ll be installing Windows, after which I’ll be moving my MP3s and photos over to it. I’ll let it run with only these things on it for about a week. If all goes well, I’ll begin migrating more to it after that.

Millard brought a sample of the DVD content home with him the other day and watched it. He remarked that the levels of the video need to be tweaked a bit. I’ve begun doing that, and will be creating a sample DVD with the new levels soon.

Closet Secrets

Oh fuck. What else is Chewbode up to now? Well, as if I didn’t have enough shit going on, I’ve decided to expand the Chewbode museum up on the site. What the hell is the Chewbode museum, you ask? Nothing. Abso-fucking-lutely nothing. It’s a fucked up, insecure attempt to organize a bunch of stuff I found while cleaning out the closet in the studio today. I’ve got a stack about twelve inches high of things sitting on my desk that needs to be kept; Out of half a closet of shit. These things are neat, fun, goofy, things that I’m going to put online for others to see. I really don’t give a fuck if you like them or not, I just need to do this. Then I can put them away in a nice tidy little box for the rest of my life. Or throw them out. Whichever makes more sense in 5 years, when I clean the closet again. So, I’m adding this project into the projects list. There won’t be a glimmer of change to the site until the entire museum is ready, so don’t be trolling the site looking for it (wait… what the fuck kind of stupid shit am I talking about?). Uh… SCOUR the website for the new stuff as frequently as humanly possible, and jack my fucking hit meters up, beotchs.

Seriously, I’m going to be uploading some stuff with some (hopefully) fun little stories and such. I’ve got a lot of things I want to do to the site: some historical, preservation-style things, some just fun, some just dorky. Check back in a few days. I hope to have it done soon.

After The Rain Has Fallen

Well, it’s finally over. For the past few hours the sun’s been out, the temperature’s 72 degrees, and there’s been a light wind. It’s absolutely beautiful outside.

I’ve decided to go and clean out and re-organize the closet in the studio and get rid of a ton of junk in there. This should make room for the render farm, which I’m still researching how I’m going to build. The goal will be to have several machines in the closet, with some good ventilation.

Millard got back into town last night after being up at Mumpdase’s wedding. Exhausted, he napped on my couch for a bit, then woke up, grabbed the hard drive with his audio masters and headed home. Hopefully we’ll begin working on the DVD tomorrow afternoon.

Advisory 31: 11:00 pm EST, Saturday October 22, 2005

Today I joined the American Film Institute. Since I was young, I’ve loved films and have been drawn by the creative spirit behind not only large studio directors, but the independent filmmaker too. I feel that being an AFI member will enrich my love and understanding of film, and will give me a stronger foundation in my pursuit of the art.

I’ve put together some sample DVDs today of the SMM Instructional DVD in both 480i and 480p versions, and hope to sit down with Millard and discuss them as soon as the storm blows over. Until we can discuss this, I’m planning on working on some samples of the title animation and menu design.
