As promised (albeit a little late), I’ve posted the pictures from Thanksgiving this past Thursday into the Picture Gallery. The day was great. We started out early, around 8:00am or so. I got the turkey cleaned and Shauna and I both buttered and seasoned it. We had prepped the rutabagas, stuffing, and green bean casserole the night before so the only “work we had to do was to cook the turkey and do the mashed potatoes. Food was done around noon, and we kept it warm until everyone arrived around 1:00pm. Glenn had to go to work really early on Friday, so everyone hung out until about 6:00pm and then left. In attendance were me, Shauna, my mom, my sister, Glenn, and my grandmother. Nobody choked on turkey this year, although there was about three metric tons of food in our bellies the whole day. A while back, I picked...

Happy Thanksgiving
I’ve been watching a lot of The Muppet Show courtesy of NetFlix. I decided to take a break from Battlestar Galactica (gasp!). However, the three Muppet discs are going back into the mailbox on Friday and BSG season 2.5 will be on its way to me. Speaking of great things on the boob-tube, Shauna and I watched a great little independent film the other night called Unknown. The primes of the story is that five guys wake up from being passed out in an abandoned chemical factory with no memory of who they are or why they’re there. As the story progresses, their memories begin to trickle back into their heads and the men begin to piece together what happened and what’s going on. I cleaned the apartment today and got everything ready for turkey day tomorrow. When Shauna got home from work, we prepped the rutabagas, stuffing, green bean...
Hell Week, Better Weekend
Oh, there is so much to blog about today… First off, I got laid off from work this past week. My last day was Friday. I’ve been thinking about how I wanted to write about this major event in my life, and, for a while, I was bitter about it all. I even was opting at one point to write this nasty entry about it all. After giving myself a couple days to reflect on it all, I’ve decided to just state some simple facts about it. I was laid off Friday because my job was phased out. The software and most of the systems I’ve worked on over the past seven years have been going away this year, and the last big software package I supported is being shut down on December 1st. I was officially let go around 10:30am on Friday, and they gave me the option of...
Troublemaker, Chili
I had this weird dream the other night: I was at Troublemaker Studios in Austin, which is owned and operated by director Robert Rodriguez. He and Quentin Taratino are good friends. In the dream, they had asked me to direct a film for them. I think they were going to produce it, so I was the one holding the reins. This is a massive-budget movie. I mean there’re grips, PAs, DPs, actors… the whole sha-bang. Millions of dollars on the line. So, I’m sitting there directing the scenes, and all I can hear is Robert yelling “keep the shots real!” from about thirty feet behind me. I have no fucking idea what he’s talking about – maybe it’s that he doesn’t want anything to seem contrived, but I’m not sure. Of course, there’s this little voice in the back of my head that’s like “man, just go with it and...
Staying Home
It seems that fate doesn't favor us today. Shauna and I decided to not go to the convention today after all. With all the errands that we needed to run, we wouldn't get there until 2:00pm, and the convention is over at 4:00pm. Not worth the $12 each for admission. I think I'll watch some TV then do some more rendering.
Pucks and Wii
I’ve joined a fantasy hockey league up on Yahoo! with a bunch of people I know from work. It’s fun. I like it. I will do it again next year. I enjoy watching the games (the Lightning at least), but it adds a little more now because I have players on my fantasy team from all over the real league, and I think I’ll get to a point real soon where I’ll watch those teams play on TV as well. At least once in a while. Speaking of which, the Lightning play tonight. Excellent. I’m currently researching some ideas for some short films. I may start pre-production as early as November 1st. Keep watching the Suncoast Studios site for more info. I tried to get a preorder in on a Nintendo Wii. I called ten different EB Games stores throughout Sarasota, Bradenton, Tampa, St. Pete, and Mt. Myers around 10:30am...
Nachos and Hockey
Thursday night I watched the season opener game between the Lightning and the Thrashers. Tampa’s new goalie, Marc Denis, was great in net even though he didn’t face many shots on goal. Ultimately, the Lightning rallied from a two point deficit and came back to tie it, forcing the game into overtime then into a shootout. Vinny Lecavalier won the game for Tampa when he was the only scorer in the final shootout. On getting all riled up over the Lightning’s win on Thursday, Shauna and I decided to get tickets for the game on Saturday. I ordered them Friday afternoon, and got the nosebleed seats (which we happen to enjoy a lot). The game on Thursday was Tampa’s first of the season, but was an away game in Atlanta. Saturday would be their first game at home against the Bruins. On top of that, the St. Pete Times Forum...
Brick and Books
Last night I saw this great independent movie Brick. It was a great frosh film-noir-style (but in color and with teenagers) whodunit by Rian Johnson. I loved the actors, the directing, and, overall, the story (Rian also wrote it). Check it out if you get a chance. Tonight I updated my comic book library and have updated the Digital Archive’s list as well. More to come this weekend and I get my shit in order.
Crazy Card
Today’s been interesting so far. I went lunch with Schafer and had to first stop at the drive-up ATM at the bank to deposit a couple of checks. We then decided to head to Jersey Mike’s for some kcik-ass subs. We get there, wait in line, and order the food (taking about 15 minutes total) and as we get to the register, I take out my wallet, open it, and notice that my debit card is not in my wallet. Of course, I just used it 30 minutes before at the ATM, so I’m rethinking what I did with it, and Schafer and I come to the conclusion that I must have left it in the ATM machine and drove away. Man, I totally never do shit like that, and this was the first time this has ever happened to me. So, he’s cool enough to buy my lunch and...
Heroes
I watched that new show, Heroes, the other night on NBC. I’m really not a big fan of watching TV, but I wanted to see if this was on par with Battlestar Galactica (which I’ve watched a few episodes of and really liked a lot). And, I think it was pretty damned good. The special effects were decent and the story was pretty good. It’s tough to tell after the first episode, but it’s promising. I’ll end up watching the next two or three episodes to get a better idea. Now I just hope that there were enough viewers so NBC doesn’t pull the plug ala Star Trek:TOS. Tonight’s agenda: Cleaning the apartment, washing / drying / storing a comforter (1 of 3), and beginning to organize my comics (yeah, yeah, I’m finally getting around to that). Sick Thought of the Day: My mustard, John’s sweet BBQ sauce, and Kelly’s...
