Last night I saw this great independent movie Brick. It was a great frosh film-noir-style (but in color and with teenagers) whodunit by Rian Johnson. I loved the actors, the directing, and, overall, the story (Rian also wrote it). Check it out if you get a chance. Tonight I updated my comic book library and have updated the Digital Archive’s list as well. More to come this weekend and I get my shit in order.

Another week (more!) has gone by and another update is due… This past week has been pretty rough on me. I’ve been more tired than usual. I think that I need to sit down and really regiment my working out (it’s been slipping a lot lately) and the whole “eating habits” thing. I wolfed down shitloads of Taco Bell last night. Not good. I mean, it was GOOD, but it’s not good for me. On top of all this I’ve been sleeping lightly (read: poorly). I think some of my problem is that I’m starting to get more involved with projects I normally wouldn’t. I’m in the process of developing a web portal with some people I know, I’ve got the feature to work on with Millard and then there’s the little side projects like updating chewbode.com and such. I think I need to re-organize my free time to allow...
Editing Begins
I officially began editing the feature tonight. It took a while to set the project up in the NLE software, as the system needed to conform the audio from all the video clips, which took a couple hours. After that was all squared away, it took about an hour to get a good rhythm down on the editing. I’m going off a shot log that Millard put together in a spreadsheet and am applying those in and out markers to the actual footage. So, I’m bouncing back and forth between Premiere and Excel, which takes some getting used to. Anyway, at this point I’m about 15 minutes into the feature. If I can keep up the pace, I should be done with the first rough cut by then end of the night on Thursday. Tropical Depression 1 upgraded to Tropical Storm Alberto today. The most recent advisory says that it...
Oh How The Time Flies
I haven’t posted in awhile. Shame on me. I’m a fuckin’ jerk. This past week has been a whirlwind of activity. Millard, Shauna, Diana, Brad and I all decided it was time to dust off the manuals, open our bags of dice, and sharpen our pencils and play some Dungeons & Dragons. I know, I know. Totally geeking out, but some of the most “gaming” fun I’ve ever had was playing D&D when I was a teenager. It brings back some fond memories of creativity and was one of the reasons I wrote The Yellow Emerald and now am into films. So, late last week we all decided to start playing on Friday nights. While Millard finished up his adjustments on the script for the feature, I began combing through my DM’s Guide and Player’s Handbook trying to convert my Second Edition rules over to the newer 3.5 rules. And...
X3
Well… What’s been up lately? Hmm… Lemme see… Oh yeah! I forgot to say that Shauna, Millard and I all went to see X-Men: The Last Stand last Friday night. I really liked the movie a lot. I’m a bit of a fanboy in general, but I never really got much into the X-Men. I dig them and all, but it really just wasn’t my thing. So, going into the movie I really didn’t have any strong convictions about what was happening in the plot, etc. I kinda figured that the actors would perform well and that the script would be decent, since everyone has had a couple of movies to get things right. Brett Ratner, however, was my biggest concern. I’ll say that he did a pretty damned good job, however the movie was a bit lacking on the personal elements with the characters that Bryan Singer was so adamant...
Writin’ and Cookin’
Well, I’ve been working on the script for the DVD project the last few days and am at a point where I’ve got five pages written. In the grand scheme of things that doesn’t seem like a hell of a lot, but it puts me about 15 minutes into the video. This project will likely be about 50 minutes long, so I’m about one third of the way done. I made a timeline for myself, and the first rough draft should be complete by Saturday night, after which I’ll have one more week to hash out all the details and adjustments to the script before the final version is due. Tonight, I finished a bottle of Famous Jake’s Chipotle Hot Pepper Sauce. It was a bottle I got for Christmas. I really enjoyed it, even if it was a bit mild for my liking. Good flavor. I’ve got a package...
Cataloging Complete
I finally got around to cataloging all the video we shot so far for the new project. I’m averaging about a 2:1 ratio (2 hours to catalog every 1 hour of footage), which isn’t all that bad. I put together a short sample video for Millard, who stopped by last night, for the sole purpose of inspiring us. It helped me, and I think Millard was psyched too. I spent most of the day Saturday vegging out, as I was exhausted, and that night watching a couple hockey games. Yesterday was spent cataloging the video, and then Millard and I watched Van Helsing and Zoolander. I’ve decided to create daily Suncoast Studios goals for myself, which will help me get some things off my plate. Sick Thought of the Day: Monkey bone in the hole.
Makin’ and Watchin’
The script is coming along well. I'm still in the brainstorming stages of it, but should actually be writing the full-version shortly. I meditated for four hours on Sunday to try to spark the ol' creative juices. I'm at an impasse right now in that I can't decide how to end the story. Hopefully this block will clear and I'll dive into the first draft in the next few days. I saw War of the Worlds finally last night. I have to say that I'm really wondering about Spielberg. The last several movies he's made he's made he's decided to go with that washed-out, grey-tinted look. I'm not sure if it's me, but it seems like he's been overdoing that a bit lately. That was really my only gripe about it, though. I also saw Elephant and Batman Begins and I also watched Anchorman again. I also set up one...
Swelling, Sleeping, Editing
Millard and I hung out yesterday. He was feeling a bit under the weather due to a nasty sunburn he suffered while out on a boat. Ouch. We rented Hitch and ordered pizza. Movie was pretty good. Pizza was better. I slept in and called into work today, as I was exhausted this morning. I'm about to open up the editing room and begin working on the DVD. More on that as it develops.
Back on the Map
Wow. It's been forever since I've posted. Since I'm stuck at the office today, waiting for a database to upgrade, I figured I'd say something. Finally. So, what's been happening lately? Hmm. Well, for starters, I've still been playing a decent amount of CoH. I'm getting to a point now where I'm balancing my gaming with the rest of my life, and not devoting six hours a day to it. This is a good thing. I'm emerging back into the real world. Millard is doing the same thing and is feeling good too. Speaking of Millard, Thursday night he, Brad Fries, Shauna and I all went to Orlando to the Sleepytime Gorilla Museum concert. We got up there around 9:30pm or so, and waited for the terrible opening bands to scream themselves raw. When SGM came on, I had trouble with "hearing" them (the audio in that place had some...
